What Berkeley expects

  • Economics B.A.

    Courses to finish

Prerequisites are Econ 1 or 2, Math 51 or 16A and Math 52 or 16B, and an intro statistics course such as Stat 20 or 21, all for a letter grade. One intermediate theory course (Econ 100A/101A, 100B/101B or 140/141) must be taken at Berkeley. Source

The department says transfers should have a full year of calculus and an Econ 1 equivalent completed before their first semester at Berkeley, and at least one math or statistics prerequisite must be taken at Berkeley. Source

    Selection

Each prerequisite taken at Berkeley needs a C or better for a letter grade, a P grade makes a student ineligible, and only one prerequisite may be retaken. Source

    Also note

For Fall 2027, transfers who select Economics on the UC application are automatically declared, but uncompleted declaration courses must still be finished to graduate. Source

Starting Fall 2027, transfers offered admission to Letters and Science are admitted directly into the major selected on the UC application, with no separate declaration process. Source

Letters and Science requires the UC 7-course pattern and a minimum 3.0 UC-transferable GPA by the end of the fall term of application. IGETC, Cal-GETC and Essential Skills are not required for admission. Source

    Every Berkeley major

Every Berkeley college requires at least 60 semester (90 quarter) UC-transferable units by the end of the spring term before fall enrollment, and major preparation is listed on ASSIST and in the Berkeley Catalog. Source
