Transferring to NYU from California
What New York University expects from community college transfers. As an out-of-state school it has its own application, deadlines and tuition, so plan for it apart from UC and CSU.

What you need
- Transfers to the New York campus apply on the Common Application for Transfer Students and pay a nonrefundable $85 application fee. Source
- Students from regionally accredited U.S. degree programs apply as transfers. Students in non-degree programs must have 24 or more semester credits by the time they enroll. Steinhardt and Tisch art and music programs require an audition or portfolio, and some programs require prerequisite courses. Source
For California community college students
- NYU's transfer admissions page does not mention California, community colleges, IGETC, Cal-GETC or ADTs. California community college students apply under the general external transfer rules. Source
Cost and scholarships
- Standard undergraduate tuition and fees at the New York campus are $68,576 for 2026-2027, with a total estimated on-campus cost of attendance of $100,998. Some schools charge more. NYU is private, so there is no separate nonresident rate. Source
- Transfer students admitted to NYU are not eligible for NYU scholarships and grants, with a few select program exceptions, and are excluded from the NYU Promise. They can still receive federal aid, outside scholarships and private loans. Source

- Global Liberal Studies, Stern School of Business majors and most Tisch School of the Arts majors accept transfer applications for fall only. The College of Arts and Science and most Steinhardt programs allow spring transfers. Source
- NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai do not accept transfer students. Housing for transfers is limited and not guaranteed. Source
