Well above the minimum

Communication Studies (all options): 2.50 minimum (Fall 2027 and spring 2028 applicants). Your GPA counts as 3.20.

  • The minimum makes you eligible for review. Impacted majors admit the strongest applicants above it.
  • Major prep courses and local-area status also count.

Compares your GPA with the minimum CSULB published for the major. It can’t see major prep or local-area status.

Local admission area

Since fall 2025, transfers are local if they graduated from a high school in CSULB's local area, are military veterans, or earned most units at Long Beach City, Cerritos, Golden West, Coastline or Orange Coast College as their last school. Local CSU-eligible applicants are guaranteed admission if they meet the major's minimum GPA and preparation. Local preference does not apply to highly impacted majors.

ADT and the Transfer Success Pathway

If the ADT is deemed similar to a CSULB major, its curriculum replaces the major-specific requirements and the cumulative GPA is increased by 0.1 for the major minimum and ranking. The ADT must be granted by the spring before fall entry.

CSULB offers TSP agreements for a list of participating majors only, and not all majors participate. The 2026 agreement window ran August 1 to October 31, 2026, and students may hold one agreement and cannot change majors.
