What cancels an admission
A strong GPA doesn’t help if one rule fails. UC can withdraw an admission or cancel a TAG when any of these goes wrong. These are the mistakes that cost transfer students their offers most often. Answer each one and see which apply to you.

Six campuses can guarantee you
Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz promise admission when you file a Transfer Admission Guarantee between September 1 and 30 and meet their line for your major.
Irvine’s list of majors it won’t guarantee grows for fall 2028 entry, so a TAG filed while your major still qualifies is worth more than it looks.

Ways to raise your odds
Grades aren’t the only lever. A few programs give priority or a guarantee to students at certain colleges, and some majors screen applicants on hard minimums before anyone reads a file. Both lists below follow your college and major.

Every date below applies to fall entry. An offer stays provisional until your final transcripts arrive, so the summer dates matter as much as the application.
Keeping an offer once you have it
- Earn a C or better in every course you listed as in progress or planned.
- Report a D, F, No Pass or withdrawal right away. UCLA and Merced both ask for this, and decisions are made case by case.
- Check your units, the 7-course pattern and major prep before dropping any course you listed.
- Send official transcripts from every college you attended by July 1.

How accurate is this?
It is a planning estimate. The ranges start from UC’s published fall 2025 admission counts and admitted-GPA ranges, then adjust for your major, preparation and eligibility. UC calls its own data a guide to selectivity, not a prediction, and these ranges should be read the same way.
Is what I enter stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Nothing leaves the page unless you choose to email yourself the results.
Why is my major so much lower at UCLA?
UCLA publishes admit rates by major. Computer Science took 5% of transfer applicants for fall 2025, against 26% for the campus as a whole. Wherever by-major data exists, the estimate uses it.
I’m an international student. Does this apply?
Yes. UC’s minimum GPA for nonresidents is 2.8 instead of 2.4, and estimates at the most selective campuses carry wider ranges. International students can file a TAG.
Do W’s on my transcript hurt me?
A W carries no grade points and isn’t part of your UC GPA, but you have to report every one. UCLA says withdrawals aren’t necessarily viewed negatively and invites an explanation in the application’s comments section. UCLA transfer admission guide
Can I retake a class to replace a bad grade?
Yes. A C-, D, F or No Pass can be repeated until you earn a C or better, and UC uses the new grade instead of averaging the two. You can’t repeat a class you passed with a C or higher. UC transfer credit practices
Does my job count as an activity?

I took classes at more than one college. What do I report?
Every school, including dual enrollment in high school, summer sessions and online classes, each under its own name. Your UC GPA combines the transferable courses from all of them. UC transfer GPA
I met every TAG requirement. Why was I denied?
A TAG is a conditional contract. It holds only if you apply to the same campus and major, your application matches your UC TAP record, every college is listed, the Transfer Academic Update is in by January, and your contract courses end at a C or better. Can I appeal a rejection?
Most campuses take appeals, but they rarely succeed without an error or new information. At UCLA the window runs May 1 to 15, and UCLA says very few decisions are reversed. UCLA transfer appeals
Can I apply after one year at community college?
Yes, if you’ll reach 60 semester units and finish the 7-course pattern by spring. UCLA strongly encourages finishing major prep by fall for Business Economics, Communication, Economics and Psychology, which is hard to do in one year. UCLA transfer admission guide
Do I have too many units?
If all your coursework is from community colleges, UC says you can’t be denied for excess units. The 80 semester unit limit comes into play once UC or four-year university units are on your record. UC Transfer Admission 201
