About LetterReady
LetterReady is a free collection of formal letter generators for the moments life demands paperwork: resigning from a job, getting a security deposit back, disputing a bill that should never have existed, excusing a child from school.
Most people don’t write formal letters often enough to know the conventions — and the traditional fix, searching for a template, usually means scrolling past walls of ads to reach a wall of brackets. When you’re stressed and in a hurry, that’s how [YOUR NAME HERE] ends up in a letter to your landlord.
How it works
Every generator asks for the handful of details that actually matter — names, dates, amounts — and renders the finished letter live, in standard US business format. Copy it, email it, print it, or download it as a Word or text file. The whole thing takes about a minute.
Each letter is written to the conventions of its real audience: HR departments, landlords, courts, billing offices. Where the law has teeth, the letter cites it — debt validation letters reference the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (15 U.S.C. § 1692g), credit report disputes reference the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681i). Everywhere else, the language stays firm, polite, and plain.
Private by design
LetterReady runs entirely in your browser. The letters you generate are never uploaded, stored, or read by anyone. The only thing the site remembers is your name — kept in your own browser’s storage so you don’t have to retype it, and yours to clear at any time.
What this isn’t
These are carefully written general templates, not legal advice. For high-stakes or unusual situations — an eviction fight, a large debt, anything involving a court deadline — spend the money on an hour with a professional. A good letter is leverage; a good lawyer is more.
